Places of Use

Layer Description:

A Place of Use (POU) polygon represents the land area where the water has been put to beneficial use or is intended to be put to beneficial use as described on the water right Certificate, Permit, Certificate of Change, Change Application in the Permit Stage, Change Application, Application, or Claim.

A POU polygon is always located based on the narrative description (legal description), as interpreted by mapping staff, from the water right document, water right application, or water right claim.  The polygon is not relocated or changed unless the POU narrative description is changed on the document, which usually requires processing the water right document.

A POU polygon may be associated with one or more Water Device Points.

A POU of a water-right document may be represented by one or more polygons.

The “Other” Place of Use type designates documents that are coded incorrectly in the Geographic Water-right Information System (GWIS) database.
